Meet the Wild One Behind SheGoneWild - Who Is She?

Hi! I’m Di (pronounced Dee) – a French native, country hopper, gym and sunrise lover, and big hot chocolate drinker – who left her comfort zone on an impulse after a very bad day. I am currently living in Canada working as a Corporate Travel Agent and always plotting my next move.

Ten years ago, I left France… soon to be eleven. Honestly, I have no idea where all those years went! I still feel like the same young woman eager to fulfill her childhood dream – living overseas. I guess time really flies when you’re having fun!

I grew up watching travel documentaries and listening to my mum’s travel stories, dreaming of exploring the world. The Cook Islands topped my travel bucket list – so far from everything, lost in the middle of the world’s biggest ocean. I longed for adventure, endless white-sand beaches, exotic food, and the chance to meet people from all over the globe.

Do you know that feeling of not belonging? That was me in France. I never felt at home, always yearning to leave, convinced that somewhere out there, a better place was waiting – somewhere I would truly feel at home. When I was about ten years old, I made an official declaration: by the time I turned 25, I would be living overseas. My plan? To move to Canada. Why Canada? That’s a story for another post.

Close enough – I left at 27. Far enough – I moved to Aotearoa, better known as New Zealand (or Middle Earth!). Yes, I change my mind a lot, but there are so many places to see and so little time. Also, I have this terrible habit of acting first and thinking later – which, surprisingly, has served me well, leading me to places I never even planned on visiting.

Since then, I’ve lived in two other countries, travelled to several more, worked various jobs, met truly amazing people, and embraced the ups and downs of an unpredictable but incredible life that I chose.

Although my solo travel journey began 20 years ago (ouch!), these past ten years have truly shaped the person I am today. Traveling and experiencing the world is the greatest education one can get – it changes the way you see everything and transforms you deeply.

To be honest, I never thought that I was doing something extraordinary by traveling solo and figuring things out as I went. Yet, people often tell me how brave I am for exploring the world on my own. Solo travel was not common back then, mostly for a young woman; it’s more popular now, but I still hear from so many people that they are afraid to take that first step. They worry about getting bored, feeling unsafe, or simply not knowing where to begin.

That’s exactly why I created this blog. I would like to inspire you, show you how liberating and rewarding solo travel can be, and prove that you can do it – and thrive!

So, that’s me – an adventure-loving traveler passionate about motivating and empowering others to push past their fears and embrace the beauty of this world. Here, I’ll share my unfiltered experiences, travel tips, itineraries, and all the joys of a life without a set plan.
